X Boat Courses

Beginning to advanced skills are developed in our X Boat Programs. Skipper and crew training will be held concurrently in both classroom and on-the-water sessions. LBSS coaching will also be available at X regattas. For our on-lake classes, skippers should bring their X Boats to class for on-the-water training. Boats must be equipped with legal flotation. Additionally, life vests are required and are to be worn shore to shore. It is the responsibility of each participant to provide his/her own US Coast Guard Approved life vest.

Classroom and on the water training

Sportsmanship, rigging, boat safety, docking and steering, teamwork and racing tactics will be covered in classroom setting. Following classroom training, all X Boat sailors should appear on the water with boat and safety equipment. On the water instruction includes a combination of drills designed to reinforce classroom instruction. When weather conditions are inclement, classes may be held inside the yacht club, if appropriate. Classes may be canceled without prior notice.

Early in the season, elective private lessons may be scheduled for all skippers. Additionally, we have planned a one day
clinic just before WYA X and ILYA X Championships.

Other Events For X Boat Sailors

Lake Beulah Yacht Club sponsors a weekday X series. This series is comprised of two daily races to be sailed either on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons. Race time is 10:30. All X boat sailors are encouraged to participate in both races. Scoring for both races will determine placement in the Weekday Series Championships. The scores of the first race will also be scored independently to attain a "Special Series" winner. The top three finishers from the previous year’s LBYC X Championship Series will not be eligible to be scored for the Special Series. A weekend Championship series is also administered by LBYC. If your family is not a member of the LBYC, a LBYC youth membership is required to participate in these LBYC races. Contact Mike Greeson at email LBSSBoard@gmail.com .

Regattas and clinics

Regattas supported by LBSS coaches include QUAD Lakes, GLSS, Oshkosh Xtreme, WYA, ILYA, and Blue Chip Championships.  Suggested clinics include Training Regatta at Pine (TRAP), X Clinic prior to WYA, and an X clinic prior to the ILYA Championships.

NOTICE OF CONCUSSION LAW COMPLIANCE

There is a concussion regulation in Wisconsin. This regulation requires all organized athletic programs to provide concussion information to participants, parents, and coaches. Coaches and parents will have responsibilities to ensure removal from activity and evaluation for any potential concussions. Fact sheets for parents and athletes are on our website, and there is an agreement form that will be a required part of the registration process. We place the utmost priority on the safety of our sailors young and old and are happy to pass along this important information and comply with the new regulations!
